đź’ł How to Use Your HSA or FSA for Healthy For Life Meals

Step 1: Obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)

Ask your healthcare provider to complete a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) confirming that medically tailored meals are part of your treatment plan.

Step 2: Submit Your Completed LMN to Healthy For Life Meals

Once your provider has completed and signed your LMN, please return it to us using one of the following secure methods:

After receipt, we’ll verify that your LMN is complete, mark your account as HSA/FSA-eligible, and email you a confirmation.

Step 3: Place Your Order & Request Reimbursement

You may place your order online using any standard credit or debit card.
After purchase, submit both of the following to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement:

  • Your itemized receipt from Healthy For Life Meals

  • Your signed LMN

Most plans accept reimbursement within 1–2 billing cycles.

⚖️ Important Information

  • HSA/FSA administrators generally require an LMN for reimbursement of medically tailored meals.

  • Under IRS guidelines, reimbursement typically covers the full program cost when meals are prescribed to treat or manage a diagnosed condition.

  • Payment processors (i.e. our credit card processors) do not currently allow direct HSA/FSA card use for food merchants; so reimbursement through your plan portal is the approved method.

  • Your LMN is generally valid for 12 months from the date of provider signature (confirm with your clinician).

đź§ľ If Your Reimbursement Claim Is Denied

  1. Review the denial notice for missing documentation.

  2. Resubmit your claim with your LMN, itemized receipt, and, if requested, our Program Overview and Nutrition Compliance Summary.

  3. Contact your plan’s customer service if needed — most denials are overturned on appeal when full documentation is provided.

Do I need a new LMN every year?
Most providers recommend renewing it annually or when your medical condition changes.

Can I submit a receipt for meals purchased before my LMN was signed?
Generally no — reimbursement applies only to meals purchased after your LMN is dated and signed.

Common qualifying conditions include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, obesity/weight management, and GLP-1 therapy support.
